Custom Limewash in New York City
CUSTOM LIMEWASH FINISHES
Remont Studios creates custom limewash finishes for residences, restaurants, hotels and commercial interiors throughout New York City. Applied by hand in layered, tonal brushwork, limewash gives walls natural movement, depth and a softly aged character that conventional paint cannot reproduce.
We collaborate with homeowners, interior designers, architects and hospitality teams to develop colors and application styles suited to each space. Every project is approached through sampling, surface evaluation and careful preparation before the final finish is applied.

OUR LIMEWASH PROCESS
CONSULTATION & SAMPLING
We review the space, lighting, existing surfaces and design direction, then develop samples to refine the color and level of movement.SURFACE PREPARATION
We evaluate and prepare the walls so the limewash bonds properly and the finished surface performs as intended.HAND APPLICATION
The finish is applied by hand in multiple coats, building the tonal variation, depth and natural movement that make each limewash project unique.

Limewash is a mineral based wall finish applied by hand in multiple coats. Unlike conventional paint, which typically creates a uniform surface, limewash develops natural tonal variation, depth and visible movement. Each application is slightly different and responds to the lighting and architecture of the space.
-
Yes, limewash can often be applied over existing painted walls when the surface is properly evaluated and prepared. Depending on the existing paint and wall condition, the process may require cleaning, repairs and a mineral compatible primer before the limewash is applied. We assess each surface before recommending the correct preparation.
-
Limewash can be used on interior walls and ceilings in residences, restaurants, hotels and commercial spaces. It works especially well in rooms where natural movement and depth are part of the design. For kitchens, bathrooms and high traffic areas, we evaluate the conditions and recommend the appropriate finish or protective treatment.
-
Pricing depends on the square footage, wall condition, ceiling height, level of preparation and complexity of the desired finish. After reviewing project photos, dimensions and design direction, we provide a tailored estimate. Larger or more detailed projects may require a site visit before pricing is finalized.
-
Timing depends on the size of the space and the amount of preparation required. A smaller room may take several days, while larger residences, restaurants and commercial interiors may require one or more weeks. The schedule also includes time for sampling, surface preparation, multiple coats and drying between applications.

Yes. We develop samples to explore color, tonal movement and application style before the final finish is approved. We can work directly with homeowners or collaborate with interior designers, architects and hospitality teams to create a finish suited to the materials, lighting and character of the space.
